Davinci Resolve bins and timelines, set up once

Set up your Davinci Resolve project once: where it goes in the Project Manager, the format, bins from your own folders, empty bins, timelines with all footage by recording time, and a clip colour for every camera. Rushwise then builds it for every new project. Part 8 of the Rushwise Academy, the series about the app for Davinci Resolve editors.

Premieres on Mon 2 Nov

The Davinci tab

Every folder structure has a Davinci tab. Here you decide once what a project looks like in Davinci Resolve Studio, and later Rushwise builds it for you, with one click. Turn it on with the switch.

Its place in Davinci

First, where the project goes in the Project Manager of Davinci. Click change. With year and category, every project lands in its own folder, for example Company films, 2026. And the project itself is named after your project.

Format

Then the format: the resolution and the frames per second of a new project. A project that is already in Davinci keeps its own.

Bins

Below, you see your project like the media pool of Davinci. Every bin gets the files of a folder on your disk, and its subfolders become bins too. Add a bin with Bin, or an empty one, for example for your selection.

Timelines

Then your timelines. Click Timeline, give it a name, and choose what goes in: all footage by recording time, one camera, one bin, only the sound, or nothing, to fill it yourself. And switch on Colour clips per camera.

A colour per camera

On the right, you give every camera its own clip colour. Type the camera name, the way it's called when you add a card, and pick a colour. Cameras without a colour get a free one automatically.

Save it

Click Save. From now on, every project with this structure goes into Davinci exactly like this. New bins and timelines even reach the projects you already have, the next time you put them into Davinci.
