What a folder structure is
A folder structure is a template for your projects. Every new project gets exactly these folders on your disk, so you never copy folders by hand again. You make one for each kind of work. For example one for weddings, and one for company films.
A new structure
Click New structure. Pick a start: an example that looks like your work, or Empty, to start completely on your own. I start with the wedding example, and give it a name of its own.
Folders and subfolders
Click Folder to add a folder. Type its name and press Enter. Click Subfolder to put one inside another, for example Drone inside Footage. Click a name to rename it, and drag a folder to move it. The bin takes a folder out of the structure. That never removes anything from your disk.
Where files go
Below the folders, you decide where your files go when you add media. Video, audio and photos each get a folder. Then choose how to sort them. Per camera makes a folder for each camera. Per shooting day makes one for each day. And all together puts everything in one folder. Don't want the photos? Choose Don't import, and they stay on the card. The example below shows exactly where a clip will land.
Save it
Happy with it? Click Save structure. Every new project with this structure now gets these folders and these rules. Projects you already made keep their own folders, so nothing changes on your disk.
Change or delete it later
You can change a structure any time, and save it again. Or remove it with Delete. Rushwise first tells you which categories use it. Your existing projects always keep their folders.
Show me how
Not sure where to start? Click Show me how, and Rushwise walks you through it, one step at a time. The Davinci tab and the Work steps tab each get their own part later in this series.
